Shady is an Earth Pony mare who appears in My Little Pony: The Movie. She is referred to as "bad luck", and joins the team of ponies looking for Lickety-Split. After having an encounter with the Smooze, the search party leaves Shady to search for Spike and Lickety-Split alone. Jill Wayne is the voice of Shady in My Little Pony: The Movie. Shady has a baby pony, Baby Shady.
Appearances[]
Shady features prominently in the movie where she joins the search to find Baby Lickety Split and Spike who had run away. At first Shady’s negativity and bad luck annoy Gusty and make Magic Star tell her to think positive, but when the smooze from the Volcano of Gloom is released Magic Star heads back to Dream Castle and Shady is left in charge of searching. Shady and a bush woolie try to find them but can’t do it and Shady cries and says bad things about herself which the bush woolie agrees with as they always agree with everything. After finding and joining the group looking for Flutter Valley, she is hopeful that Megan arriving will change her luck. However her eternal pessimism annoys the others, but Shady is very happy when Spike and Baby Lickety Split arrive at Flutter Valley with Morning Glory and the grundles.
In the series after settling into Paradise Estate a ghost appears and haunts them, when setting a trap Shady wonders what would happen to a wet ghost. But the ghost is actually Pluma who traps all the ponies in nets and destroys the ponies house to find half of the flashstone. Shady is the main character in the glass princess, when getting ready for the pony olympics Shady has a hard time jumping with the other earth ponies and thinks she’s useless. Molly tries to assure her she isn’t and so do Heart Throb, Lickety Split and Gusty but Shady storms off and Molly follows her. But on getting back to Paradise Estate they’re told about the three getting kidnapped and Shady blames herself for in her words deserting them, thinking she could have helped though it likely would have just meant four kidnapped ponies instead of three. Shady even sings a song about her low opinion of herself but Molly brings her round and they decide to follow the bush woolies hair that shed to be a backup in the rescue mission. When following behind everyone Shady sees the hair and has the idea to make a replacement cloak with the non magical bush woolie hair and exchange it for the real one. At the end of the episode all it fixed and Gusty tells her not to doubt herself again, though she goes back to that next episode.
In the return of Tambelon when playing a game of hide and seek and being pulled behind a rock by Molly Baby Ribbon and Ribbon wink out but don’t return. Soon all the unicorns in Dream Valley vanish and Shady tries to help find them but the unicorns were in the realm of darkness, in Tambelon which soon appeared in Ponyland and Shady was the first captured by the troggles. She was also in the magic coins, when Baby Lickety Split wished it would never rain again Ponyland began to dry up which was a disaster for the baby sea ponies who’s lakes and rivers all dried up, Shady tried to find some water but only came back with a drop, she feels bad for that but Ripple doesn’t blame her, by the end of the episode the wishes are reversed and it rains.
Shady’s last prominent appearance was in mish mash melee, when playing polo with Fizzy, Gusty and Wind Whistler they end up in the dell dwellers dell and knock over a barrel of frazzits. This makes Shady and Gusty switch personalities, making Shady daring and brave and confident, at the end of the episode Shady does back to normal. In the would be dragon slayer Shady shows an improvement in her jumping skills as she is able to compete with Gingerbread in the earth pony jumping finals.

Shady was released in 1986 as a so soft pony in the Gingerbread pose, non so soft Shady toys were released in the UK and Brazil, a Shady in the collector pose was released in Argentina with fading pink hair and three pairs of sunglasses instead of five.

Shady is a pink with chartreuse mane. Her eyes are green and she wears blue ribbon on her tail. Her cutie mark is a 5 white glasses.
Personality[]
Shady is a pony with a crippling lack of confidence and always puts herself down, sometimes the other ponies find her pessimism annoying but they usually try to make her feel better. Shady often has trouble thinking in a positive way and convinces herself that she is useless like when she struggled in earth pony jumping and compares herself to the other ponies a lot who each have their own special talents, while Shady sometimes finds confidence in herself she usually loses it by the time of the next episode.
